The New Yam Festival (Iri Ji) is one of the most significant cultural events in Igboland. It symbolizes the conclusion of the harvest season and ushers in the new agricultural cycle.
The ceremonies involve the offering of yam to deities and ancestors, followed by the ceremonial presentation of new yam by the eldest man or traditional ruler of the community.
The festival features masquerade performances, traditional dances, and music that showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Igbo people.
